SUVs and crossovers appear to be dominating the new vehicle market in America, there’s still plenty to see if you’re looking for a new car or minivan. Hundreds of all-new, redesigned, and refreshed cars and vans will hit dealerships in the coming years.

So, should you buy a new car right away or wait for a new model to come out?

We’ll help you solve this conundrum by taking a look at all of the vehicles that will be hitting showrooms in the coming years. 

All-New Models Are on Their Way

In this section, we’ll take a look at the brand-new vehicles that we know are coming in 2022. A few are already in dealer showrooms, but the majority are still months to a year away.

Most of these vehicles would have been unveiled at glitzy auto shows before the coronavirus pandemic. Today, we find out about them through webcasts and press releases. Many vehicles that are nearly identical to cars in almost every way are labeled as SUVs by automakers to increase their perceived market appeal.

Kia’s all-new multi-purpose vehicle for 2022 will be named after the circus-like atmosphere that often exists inside a minivan, rather than the serene Arizona town that inspired the name of the outgoing 2021 Kia Sedona.

The Kia Carnival 2022 is scheduled to arrive in the middle of 2021 as a 2022 model. The company prefers that you refer to it as an MPV, or multi-purpose vehicle, rather than a minivan. But, seriously, it’s a minivan with sliding rear doors that happens to look like a large crossover.

New car models that have been redesigned are expected to be released soon. One of three things can happen when a car reaches the end of its product cycle. It is either redesigned, replaced, or removed entirely from the manufacturer’s lineup. The fortunate ones have been redesigned and upgraded with the most recent safety, infotainment, efficiency, and performance features.

Many redesigns scheduled for the 2021 model year have been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Some manufacturers have now designated 2022 as the model year.

According to Elon Musk, Tesla’s Tweeter-in-Chief, the production of the second-generation Tesla Roadster will now begin in 2022. The incredibly fast two-seater was supposed to arrive in 2020, but it, like many Tesla products, has been delayed.

The Tesla Roadster was the company’s sole product when it first appeared on the scene. It was essentially a Lotus Elise with the gasoline powertrain replaced by a powerful battery-electric setup. From that humble beginning, the new tri-motor Tesla Roadster is a huge leap forward. According to Tesla, it can accelerate from zero to 56 mph in as little as 1.6 seconds and reach a quarter-mile in as little as 1.9 seconds.

We’ve been waiting for the Audi e-Tron GT since it debuted. It now exists – in two distinct models. Both are expected to arrive in dealer showrooms soon.

The electric motors in the front and rear of the 2022 Audi e-Tron GT generate 466 horsepower in normal driving and up to 520 horsepower for 2.5 seconds when launch control is activated. That’s enough to get the low-slung four-door from 0 to 58 mph in 3.6 seconds.

The 2022 Audi RS e-Tron GT is even faster. It has a different rear motor that generates 590 horsepower in normal mode and 634 horsepower when overboost is engaged. 

Volkswagen’s hatchback lineup in the United States is about to change. The Golf hatchback, like the Golf SportWagen and Alltrack, will be phased out of the US market by 2022. The redesigned 2022 Volkswagen GTI and Golf R will be the only Golf models to remain.

VW hasn’t revealed any details about the GTI for the US market, but we can look to Europe for a sneak peek.

According to industry sources, the new GTI will have a 14-horsepower increase to 242. An upgraded turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine will provide power. Its body has been sculpted to be more aerodynamically sculpted, lengthened, and lowered.

The single-seat Electra Meccanica Solo’s march toward the market continues with an expanded retail network.

The Electra Mechanica is a one-passenger, three-wheeled electric car developed with a range of 100 miles on a single charge. Two of the wheels are in the front, with a single wheel at the tapered back end of the car. The Solo will be classified as a motorcycle in many states.

BMW has shown a concept of its electric Gran Coupe, and now spy photos indicate that the production version is nearly complete. Unlike many electric vehicles, which require assembly lines, the new i4 will be built alongside the 2021 BMW 3 Series.

BMW’s electric powertrain for the 2022 BMW i4 produces 530 horsepower. This is more powerful than the turbocharged six-cylinder engine found in the 2021 BMW M4. Furthermore, electric motors deliver power faster than even the most powerful gasoline engines. BMW anticipates that the car will have a range of approximately 370 miles on a single charge.

The 2015 Toyota Mirai was revolutionary. It was one of the first hydrogen-powered cars available for purchase, but its design was divisive. Toyota took the car in a completely different direction for 2021, giving it one of the most stylish designs in the company’s lineup.

Toyota’s hydrogen vehicle is now available at a few California dealerships. Don’t worry if you don’t live in California. The Mirai’s distribution will most likely expand as more hydrogen fueling stations are built in new areas.

The new sedan has more hydrogen storage capacity than the first-generation model, as well as upgrades to the hydrogen fuel-cell stack. A hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle, such as the Mirai, employs a regenerative braking system.

For 2022, the Subaru BRZ gets a new look, a more powerful engine, and a cabin outfitted with updated technology. A six-speed automatic transmission with Sport mode is available.

While we haven’t seen the final production version of the new Z Car, we have a good idea of how it will look. Nissan unveiled the Z Proto concept, a redesigned sports car. It borrows styling cues from nearly every Z Car generation.

The twin-turbo V6 found in the 2021 Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 is expected to power the new Z Car. The engine in the Infiniti produces 400 horsepower. Nissan has promised that the new car will be available with a manual transmission.

The new Z Car will replace the 2020 Nissan 370Z, which has remained largely unchanged since 2009. Expect the new car to make significant advances in terms of cabin comfort and safety.

A redesigned 2022 Volkswagen Golf R will also be available later this year. The new Golf R is the hottest of the VW hot hatches, with a four-cylinder turbo engine producing 312 horsepower and 309 pound-feet of torque. This represents a 21-horsepower increase over the current model. The vehicle will be equipped with all-wheel drive as standard.

Volkswagen estimates a 4.2-second acceleration from 0 to 60 mph. There are two transmission options: a six-speed manual or a quick-shifting seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. It rides on 15-inch alloy wheels with summer high-performance tires.
